Technical specifications

Here is a brief overview of the technical specifications for our insulated sliding glass roofs.
Learn more about how well it handles both hot and cold weather, all dimensions and some facts about test results for sliding roofs from Sweden.

Climate
The insulated sliding glass roofs can be used in all countries despite climate, and have different bennefits depending on the temperature.

-In cold climate, you have great insulation value, and help you save energy costs. You shut out the cold wind and snow, while taking use of the warming sunlight.

-In warm climate you protect your self from dangerous UV light, harsh rain, and can ventilate off the excess hot air with opening the sliding roof.

In both cases you can enjoy natural sunlight, and the luxurious design that the sliding glass roof provides.

Versatility
The retractable sliding glass roofs are very versatile and can be used in a variety of different ways.

Restaurants -cover up that outdoor seating with a sliding glass roof. Throw away the old awning, keep the light and space, open up on warm days and be protected from the rain.

Residential buildings -make your project stand out from the crowd. Add a design feature that is unique and very usefull. The added value from installing a retractable sliding glass roof is usually more then double of the cost. Low maintenance and high build quality is very valued.

Balcony roofs -with a very light weight, the uninsulated sliding glass roof is perfect for balconies. Even when the depth of the balcony is lower then 2m, its still a good investment that let you use the balcony fully. Because of the sliding function, you can retract the glass roof 75-86%, ventilating the warm air out separating it from a green house completely.

Swimming pools – with great insulation values, the cost of a heated pool decreases drastically. If your pool is unheated, the sliding glass roof will help to heat the pool by natural sunlight. Using a proper sliding glass roof instead of a normal pool roof, you will increase the value of your property, and keep the pool area just as stunning as the rest of your building.

Pergolas -be protected from rain, birds, and debree from nearby trees.
When building a pergola, you are usually not required to obtain a building permit. When building a retractable sliding glass roof, you can feel safe with your build without going through the process. of a building permit.

How to use an Insulated sliding glass roof best:

Warm Climate

Outdoor air temperatures from 32 to 45 °C/90 to 113 °F:

A well-insulated closed roof in combination with cooled indoor air during the daytime.
Open roof at night.
Reduced use of energy.

Outdoor air temperatures from 15 to 32 °C/59 to 90 °F:

The roof is opened, to let the outdoor air in.
The outdoor temperature the same as the indoor temperature during the daytime.
The roof is closed, as required, at night.
No use of energy.

Outdoor air temperatures from 5 to 15 °C/41 to 59 °F:

The roof is kept closed. Solar heat during the daytime heats the indoor air.
If the indoor air temperature exceeds the comfort level, the roof can be opened temporarily.
Very limited or no use of energy.

Cold Climate

Outdoor air temperatures from ‒ 30 to + 10 °C/‒ 22 to + 50 °F:

The roof offers good heat insulation.
Profiles of composite materials are not cold and provide warm surfaces, like wood
Heat from solar radiation provides increased comfort – less need raise the indoor temperature to compensate for low outdoor temperatures.
During the daytime, the roof functions as a passive solar collector, heating the indoor air.
Lower level of energy use compared to traditional glass roofs.

Outdoor air temperatures from + 11 to + 25 °C/52 to 77 °F:

If the indoor air temperature exceeds the comfort level, the roof can be opened temporarily.
The roof is otherwise kept closed and functions as a passive solar collector, heating the indoor air.
No use of energy.

Outdoor air temperatures from + 26 to + 32 °C/79 to 90 °F:

The roof can be kept open, letting the outdoor air enter the building. This will often provide a suitable indoor air temperature at night and during parts of the day.
If the indoor temperature becomes too high, the roof can be closed and the comfort cooling system switched on.
Significantly lower use of energy.

The roof is just as tight when it is in incline at 5 degrees as it is at 35 degrees. It has even been recommended for use in harsh environments, such those experienced aling the Norwegian Atlantic coast.
Un-insulated glass roof Laboratory tests of the un-insulated roof have also been carried out at Norway’s Technical Institute in trondheim. This roof functions perfectly even with a wind pressure of 750 Pa on vertical walls and at all roof angles.

A few facts

Watertightness

Insulated or Un-insulated
The roof system is available insulated or un-insulated. The insulated version is based on composite profiles and double glass units. The un-insulated system uses aluminium profiles and 6 mm toughened glass or 16 mm double wall polycarbonate panels.

Opening
The un-insulated glass roof can be opened manually or by motor. Selected manual opening this can be done using a rod. With a rod, each glass panel openes individually and the temperature under the glass roof is regulated according to your own needs and desires. With the electrical motor, the entire glass roof opens in two directions: First, from the eaves up against roof top – where the motor is placed under the roof, partly from the rooftop down toward the eaves – where the engine is placed on top of the glass ceiling.

Manual or motorized operation
The roof can be maneuvered manually or by motor.
Remote control units and rain sensors are available as extras.

Self supporting
The roof is self-supporting and the insulated version permits span widths of up to 6.7 metres. The un-insulated version can span 4.2 m without additional steel supports. The roof consists of 4 elements in each section, of which 3 are retractable.

Simple installation
Both types of roof elements are simple to install. They are prefabricated in the same factory as the beams and profiles. This facilitates speedy erection at the building site and provides a much faster solution than conventional glass roofing.

Patents
The roof design is patented in a large number of countries.
Bentech sells patent licenses, semi-finished products and fully finished products.

Motor
The drive unit comprises a single phase, 220-volt tubular motor. One motor serves two roof segments and its synchronous drive belt is positioned directly under the beam that separates the two roof segments from each other.

The motors can be operated via a remote control or a fixed switch. If the solution requires more than one tube motor, a remote control must be used. Alternatively, each motor must be operated by its own fixed switch. If required, rain sensors can be attached later.

Insulated roofs can be factory-prepared for subsequent motor installation. This means that motors do not necessarily have to be fitted when the roof is being installed. They can be fitted when it suits the user.

Test results
Norway ‘s Building Research Institute in Trondheim has carried out extensive tests of Bentech´s insulated retractable roof system.
The tests confirm the excellent results noted by our customers in practical experience – that our roofs are both watertight and airtight.

Watertightness
Air cushions guarantee that the system offers a perfect seal, no matter what the slope/pitch of the roof is. Laboratory tests have verified practical experience – that perfect watertightness is achieved even at slopes/pitches as low as 2-3 degrees. Movements that normally occur in roofs, for example due to wind and snow, are ingeniously compensated for without compromising tightness. This means the roof is just as tight when it is inclined at 5 degrees as it when it is at 35 degrees. It has even been recommended for use in harsh environments, such those experienced along the Norwegian Atlantic coast.

Airtightness
Airtightness for windows is defined in the class 4 regulations of the NS-EN 12207 standard. Bentech´s insulated retractable roof meets these requirements.

Seal guarantee
Bentech is the only manufacturer in the world which guarantees that their retractable glass roof is completely waterproof down to an inclination of as low as 2 degrees!
